Top mobile app development companies in the USA, 2026 guide

Quick question: when did you last open a company's website on your phone instead of its app?

If you're like most people, you can't remember.

We order dinner, book rides, pay bills and track packages without ever opening a browser. Your customers do the same thing every day.

So if your business still doesn't have an app, you're asking customers to do something they've mostly stopped doing.

The hard part is choosing who builds it. There are thousands of mobile phone application development companies in the US, and most of their websites say the same things.

That's why we wrote this guide.

I've spent 14 years running software delivery teams. Below are the 11 companies I'd look at first if I were hiring an app partner today, what each one does best, and who it's a good fit for.

Full disclosure: Dilijent Systems is our company. We've included it because it's our honest pick for certain kinds of projects, and we're just as clear about when another company on this list will serve you better. None of the other companies paid to be included.

Why Your Business Needs an App in 2026

Here's a number worth sitting with.

According to Sensor Tower's State of Mobile 2026 report, people spent 5.3 trillion hours in mobile apps in 2025. That's about 3.6 hours a day for the average user.

They're spending money there too. Consumers spent around $85 billion inside non-game apps last year, up 21% from 2024 (TechCrunch).

Your customers are already on their phones. The real question is whether your business is there with them.

Think about Uber, Amazon and Instacart. None of them won because of a great homepage. They won because their apps made a common task faster than any other option.

The same idea works for smaller businesses too:

  • A restaurant sends a lunch deal at 11:30, and orders come in by noon.
  • A clinic sends an appointment reminder, and no-shows drop.
  • A gym lets members book classes in two taps, so they actually show up.

That's the kind of direct line to customers a website can't give you.

Before You Hire: 6 Questions to Ask Any App Developer

Most bad app projects don't fail because of bad code.

They fail because nobody asked the right questions at the start. Before you sign with any of the mobile application developer companies below, ask these:

1. Have you built apps in my industry?

A team that has shipped healthcare or fintech apps already knows the rules. A team learning them on your budget will be slower and riskier.

2. Native or cross-platform, and why?

The right answer depends on your users, not on what the agency likes to build.

3. Who owns the code?

Get it in writing. You should own the source code and the app store accounts.

4. How will we communicate?

Look for a named project manager, weekly demos and overlapping work hours.

5. What happens after launch?

Apple and Google update their systems every year. Ask what maintenance costs before you sign, not after.

6. Fixed price or time and materials?

Fixed price suits a clear scope. Time and materials suits projects where you'll learn and adjust along the way.

Which Mobile App Development Platforms Are Most Popular in 2025?

This is one of the first things clients ask us. In the US, it comes down to four options.

For native apps:

  • Swift for iPhone and iPad
  • Kotlin for Android

For cross-platform apps:

  • Flutter, backed by Google
  • React Native, backed by Meta

So which should you pick?

Go native if your app depends on top-tier performance or heavy hardware use. Think banking, gaming, AR or anything using health sensors. You'll build two apps, so it costs more.

Go cross-platform if you want to launch on iPhone and Android at the same time with one codebase. For most small and mid-sized businesses, this is the smart starting point.

Between the two cross-platform options, Flutter often leads global developer surveys. In the US and UK, though, React Native appears to be more popular (The Pragmatic Engineer). A big reason is that it shares a language with React, the web framework many US companies already use.

Case Study: How We Built the PazeX Driver App

Talking about app development is easy. Here's what it looks like in practice, from one of our own projects.

The client

PazeX is a ridesharing platform in Nigeria, built around trust, safety and flexible payments for riders and drivers.

The challenge

Ridesharing in Nigeria needs more than a "book a car" button. Riders want to feel safe. Drivers want to earn fairly and see exactly what they're making. Both sides need payment options that fit how people actually pay locally.

PazeX needed an app that was simple enough for any driver to pick up, but strong enough to handle live rides, earnings and payments.

What we built

We handled the mobile UI/UX design and the app development. The driver app includes:

  • A clean, branded onboarding flow that gets drivers set up quickly
  • A dashboard showing earnings, completed rides and upcoming rides at a glance
  • Ride cards with distance, time and price, plus one-tap accept and cancel
  • In-app call and message buttons so riders and drivers can reach each other
  • A bottom navigation bar for quick access to every part of the app
PazeX driver app driver information and in-app chat screens built by Dilijent Systems
PazeX driver app sign-up and ride request screens

The result

The PazeX Driver app is live on the Apple App Store, giving drivers a clear, trustworthy way to find rides and track their earnings.

The lesson

The hardest part of PazeX wasn't the technology. It was understanding what made drivers and riders trust the app, then designing every screen around that. That's true for almost every app we build.

You can read the full PazeX case study or browse more work in our portfolio.

What We've Learned From Building Apps for Our Clients

PazeX is one project. Here are a few lessons that show up across almost all of them.

Launch smaller than you think.

Almost every client comes in with a long feature list. The apps that succeed usually launch with three or four core features, get real users, and grow from there. A smaller first version reaches the market faster and costs less to change.

The backend is half the project.

The screens are what people see, but user accounts, payments, notifications and data all live on the server. When a quote looks surprisingly low, the backend is often what's missing from it.

Plan for app store review.

Apple and Google both review apps before they go live, and a rejection can push a launch back. Build that time into your schedule, especially if your app handles payments or health data.

Decide who answers support emails.

Once real users arrive, so do questions and bug reports. Agree on who handles them, and how fast, before launch day.

Healthcare apps need billing people in the room.

On our healthcare projects, the most useful feedback often comes from our own RCM team, not the developers. They spot workflow problems in a patient payment screen that a designer wouldn't think to look for.

How We Picked These Companies

This isn't a pay-to-play list, and it isn't a ranking from best to worst. Each company here is strong at a different kind of project.

Every company had to meet four standards:

  • A real track record. Years in business and a public portfolio of shipped apps.
  • Independent proof. Reviews or recognition from third parties like Clutch, DesignRush, Inc. or Forbes, not just claims on their own website.
  • A US presence. A US headquarters or US-based project management, so you can work in your time zone.
  • A clear specialty. Something they do better than most, whether that's design, AI, healthcare, startups or enterprise work.

The facts below come from each company's own public materials and from independent directories. Where a number is self-reported, we say so.

The Top Mobile App Development Companies in the USA

For each company, you'll see what it does, what makes it different and who it suits best.

1. Dilijent Systems (Austin, Texas): Our Team

PazeX driver app welcome and earnings dashboard screens, designed and built by Dilijent Systems, a mobile app development company in Austin, Texas

Most businesses end up juggling three vendors: one for the app, one for the website and one for the backend.

We built Dilijent Systems so you don't have to.

Based in Austin, we design and build custom mobile apps for iOS and Android. As a full-service web apps development company, we can also build the web platform, admin dashboard and cloud backend behind your app, all as one connected product.

Need more than an app? We also handle:

What makes us different? Healthcare.

Alongside software, we run revenue cycle management for US providers, including medical billing, coding, credentialing and denial management.

Our developers work next to people who process claims every day. So when you need medical billing mobile app development services or other healthcare software, you're not paying us to learn how billing works.

We've spent more than 12 years in the industry and completed over 200 projects.

When we're not the right fit: If your main need is a brand identity and a big marketing launch, look at Naked or Digital Silk. If you're migrating systems across a large enterprise, ELEKS is built for that scale. And if you want a team you can meet in person in Los Angeles, AppMakers USA or Goji Labs will suit you better.

Why pick Dilijent: one partner for your app, web and backend, plus real healthcare experience.

2. Naked (Irvine, California)

Have an idea but no brand, no design and no tech team yet? That's exactly who Naked is built for.

Based in Irvine, Naked combines branding, design and development under one roof. It reports more than 327 app launches and over 3.7 million downloads across client apps.

It's one of the best-known mobile app design companies on the West Coast, and clients praise its design work most. Its portfolio covers dating, fitness and automotive apps, including the Naked Training app for The Perfect Workout.

One detail stands out: Naked offers a money-back guarantee, which is rare among US agencies.

Why pick Naked: founder-friendly, design-first and based in Southern California.

3. Simpalm (Washington, D.C. Metro Area)

Simpalm has been building apps since 2009, almost as long as the App Store has existed.

Founded by Piyush Jain, who holds a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins, Simpalm is headquartered in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., with an office in Chicago as well. The company reports more than 350 delivered products and says 97% of its customers come back for more work.

Its team builds with Swift, Kotlin, React Native and Flutter, and it has added AI features like natural language processing, computer vision and predictive analytics. Clients range from startups to enterprises and federal agencies, across healthcare, fitness, finance, education and government.

Simpalm has also been named a top app developer in the DC/Maryland region by Clutch.

Why pick Simpalm: a long track record, strong repeat business and experience with government and AI projects.

4. Designli (Greenville, South Carolina)

Designli's founders learned the hard way what it's like to hire the wrong agency.

Back in 2012, CEO Keith Shields and his co-founders ran a college startup that outsourced its app development. The experience was slow and frustrating, so they started Designli to do it better.

Today the Greenville-based company focuses on non-technical founders and SaaS companies. Instead of spreading developers across dozens of clients, it assigns a dedicated team to your product, so the same people stay with you from wireframe to launch.

Services include UX/UI design, mobile apps, web apps, SaaS platforms and cross-platform development. Designli also rescues projects left unfinished by other agencies. It made the Inc. 5000 list in 2025 and was named an Inc. Power Partner the same year.

Why pick Designli: a dedicated team that understands what non-technical founders need.

5. Utility (New York and Los Angeles)

Airbnb, Coca-Cola, Samsung, the NBA and Forbes. That's part of the client list at Utility.

Founded in 2013, Utility has offices in New York and Los Angeles. Its founders came from Major League Baseball and McCann Erickson, and the agency reports more than 150 delivered projects.

The team covers strategy, UX/UI design, AI engineering and development, with both native and cross-platform experience.

Why pick Utility: big-brand experience, strong design and teams on both coasts.

6. JPLoft Solutions

If your idea looks like "Uber for something," JPLoft has probably built something similar.

JPLoft Solutions serves clients in the US, UK, India, Australia and Saudi Arabia. It reports more than 1,100 projects in 70 countries.

Its services cover mobile and web apps, e-commerce, games, digital marketing, AI and blockchain. Its sweet spot is on-demand apps for food, taxis, fitness, groceries and real estate.

Why pick JPLoft: deep experience with on-demand apps at a competitive price.

7. AppMakers USA (Los Angeles, California)

Did another vendor leave your app half-finished? AppMakers USA has a service built for exactly that.

Also known as App Makers LA, this app development company in Los Angeles was founded in 2014 by Daniel Haiem. It has built systems for CVS Pharmacy, the NFL and Los Angeles Apparel, along with many first-time startup apps.

The team builds native iOS and Android apps, plus React Native and Flutter cross-platform apps. Its "Fix Your App" service audits and repairs stalled apps built by other developers.

Why pick AppMakers: a local LA team, clear communication and app rescue experience.

8. Goji Labs (Los Angeles, California)

In March 2026, DesignRush ranked Goji Labs first on its list of top mobile app development companies.

That ranking comes from more than a decade of work with startups, businesses and nonprofits. The LA agency offers product strategy, UX research, design, mobile and web development, and IoT. It starts with strategy before writing any code, which helps when you're not yet sure what your product should be.

Its client list includes the World Health Organization, Root Insurance, the World Wildlife Fund, UCLA, USC and the City of Los Angeles.

Why pick Goji Labs: strategy-first thinking, especially for nonprofits, education and health.

9. Dedicated Developers (Alpharetta, Georgia)

Dedicated Developers solves a common budget problem: US-quality management at offshore rates.

Since 2007, Dedicated Developers has paired US-based leadership with developers in India, the Philippines and Argentina. It has more than 100 team members and reports over 1,000 completed projects.

It builds native and hybrid mobile apps, websites and custom software. It's also a strong web apps development company, with deep PHP and .NET experience.

Why pick Dedicated Developers: US management with offshore pricing.

10. Digital Silk (New York, New York)

Building the app is only half the job. Getting people to download it is the other half.

Digital Silk handles both. The New York agency was founded in 2019 by Gabriel Shaoolian, who previously built the agency Blue Fountain Media and writes regularly for Forbes and other business publications.

Digital Silk combines web, app and software development with branding, SEO, content and paid marketing. It has offices in several US cities, and Forbes named it one of the best web design companies in 2024. Its client roster lists names like Sony, Amazon, the NFL, NASA, Procter & Gamble, Xerox and New York University.

Why pick Digital Silk: development and launch marketing from one team.

11. ELEKS

Large companies with legacy systems and strict regulations need a different kind of partner. That's where ELEKS fits.

With more than 30 years in the market and over 1,000 completed projects, ELEKS handles application development, proofs of concept, cloud migration and enterprise software.

It works across fintech, healthcare, technology and government.

Why pick ELEKS: enterprise-scale experience for complex, regulated projects.

Projects or apps delivered, as reported by each company. Designli, Goji Labs and Digital Silk don't publish a comparable figure.

Bigger numbers don't automatically mean a better fit. A firm with 1,000 projects may assign you a junior team, while a smaller shop may put its senior people on your app. Ask who will actually work on your project.

Looking for a Mobile App Development Company in Los Angeles?

Good news: you've got strong options.

AppMakers USA and Goji Labs are both headquartered in LA. Pick AppMakers for hands-on startup builds or fixing a stalled app. Pick Goji Labs for strategy-heavy projects.

Utility also has an LA office, and Naked is a short drive south in Irvine.

But it's worth asking: does your developer really need to be local?

Most app projects now run on video calls, shared boards and weekly demos. Our PazeX team, for example, built an app for a client on another continent. If your app involves healthcare billing, cloud infrastructure or a connected web platform, the best match may be outside LA.

Dilijent Systems works with California clients remotely, on US time zones.

Medical Billing Mobile App Development Services

Healthcare apps play by different rules.

A patient billing app handles protected health information. It has to connect with practice management and EHR systems, and it has to be accurate to the cent.

That's where general-purpose agencies often struggle. They can build the screens, but they underestimate the compliance and workflow details.

A strong medical billing app usually includes:

  • Patient statements and online payments, including payment plans
  • Insurance eligibility checks before the visit
  • Claim status tracking for practice staff
  • Secure messaging with the billing office
  • Dashboards for A/R, denials and collections

Our medical billing mobile app development services are backed by an in-house RCM team that handles accounts receivable and billing audits for US practices every day.
